Being in a new place, we will have to develop some new Christmas traditions. Previously, we would get up early Christmas morning, have Jesus birthday cake, deliver Meals on Wheels, then return home to open gifts. Since we haven't discovered a local ministry delivering meals on Christmas here, we will have to do something different. In talking with a couple from church, we heard they help serve the evening meal on Christmas Eve at one of the area Homeless Shelters. We said, "Sign us up." So, we loaded the family in the car, and headed there Christmas Eve. We were blessed to serve 26 men, women and children. It is an emergency shelter where they can reside for 21 days before needing to head to another place. It was a humbling experience, and we were glad the children were able to participate with us.
Earlier in the week, we went caroling with another family in their neighborhood. (wouldn't want OUR neighbors to hear us!!) We rode in an open trailer behind his truck and had a good time trying to come up with replacement words for "dashing thru the snow in a one horse open sleigh" with the Georgia kind of Christmas, where there's no snow, no sleigh, no horse, etc...
As it turns out, we DID have snow for Christmas. It started snowing late in the afternoon, and by 7:30 p.m. we had an inch, and church was cancelled for the next day! We had a good chuckle about the cancellation! Today we had church in the family room, but slept in first!!
We are getting ready to head north where there is REAL snow this week. We plan to spend a couple days in northern Kentucky with friends, then head further north in Ohio to celebrate Christmas with the family. Should be a good time, except Joe doesn't get to go with us. We weren't sure we could get him on a flight back to Atlanta for work, so he is going to stay here and work on the master bathroom remodel and then back to the paying job. I'm looking forward to the transformed bathroom!
